Released in 2001, the original Industry Giant was met with a degree of scepticism from strategy-management fans. JoWood had proved that games that are complex in concept can be adapted to suit non-skilled newcomers to the genre. Hardcore players didn’t like this, but regardless, it went on to sell over a million copies worldwide. The sequel is now available, titled Industry Giant 2, and it’s every bit as good as its predecessor.
The business simulation begins in America at the turn of the century and ends in the year 1980. As with its predecessor, the player slips into the role of an entrepreneur trying to create an enterprise of global extent.
The player is responsible for the purchase of raw materials, processing, distribution and sales. An enhancement over Industry Giant is the ability to select among the different steps of production. You may produce goods and sell them to distributors or take over the role of the distributor yourself. Ship and handle your goods with the help of more than 50 different means of transportation such as ships, locomotives, or trucks.
Like many sequels, Industry Giant 2 is more of the same but with lots of sparkly new bits thrown in. It’s great for beginners and it’s challenging for experts. A well-balanced game.
