Summary

Gamers have been mastering the art of the button press since Pong first started knocking pixels against each other back in the depths of the 20th century, but Rhythm Paradise has really elevated this humble act of interaction to an artform.

Rhythm Paradise works as a greatest hits mix of this venerable series' rhythm-based play, as ever featuring bright, colourful and humorous graphics and a series of rhythm-based mini-games. This release brings together tracks from previous entries in the series with 30 all-new stages, such as the massive monkey slumber party or the gelatinous blue basketball court. Yes, it's that odd.

Fans of the series will be happy to see entries from the original Rhythm Tengoku on GBA. While they're far from new, they might as well be - the game was never released outside Japan and while some tracks were on Beat the Beat: Rhythm Paradise, many have never been seen in the West before. There are also overhauled versions of tracks from Rhythm Paradise on the DS which ditch the (not so popular) touch controls and replace them with trusty button-based control. Many tracks also benefit from the 3DS's superior control feedback.

End of stage remixes - musical boss battles, if you will - take things up a further notch, too, consolidating everything you've learned into some fancy thumb work.

The icing on the cake for many fans will be that the soundtrack is available to play in both English and the original Japanese! Throw in multiplayer competition via StreetPass and co-op play in Challenge Land, and this is a really deep package.
