Summary

After a rocky start, Final Fantasy XIV has risen to prominence as an entry-point MMO that serves both casual players and dedicated Final Fantasy fans. That's thanks in no small part to producer/designer Naoki Yoshida's dedication to keeping an open dialogue going between the development team and the community, and nowhere is that more apparent than in the latest expansion, Stormblood.

Having brought the thousand-year conflict between man and dragon in the north to an end, the Warrior of Light and his friends get ready to liberate Ala Mhigo, a land under the boot heel of the Garlean Empire. Meanwhile, the freedom fighters of Doma seek to rekindle the hope of their countrymen in the Far East.

As you might guess, players get a huge new area to explore, modeled on the beautiful architecture of Asia. New dangers and adventures await, as do the beastmen and primals that threaten to plunge the realm into chaos.

Alongside the new lands to discover, however, Square Enix offers a wealth of additions sure to get fans excited. There are two new classes in the form of the Red Mage and the Samurai, a new level cap of 70, an expanded inventory and the addition of swimming.

Players' adventures in Eorzea are in line for some sweeping changes, and Final Fantasy XIV will never be the same again.
