Summary

Scribblenauts makes a happy return to our screens with Showdown, a game that brings the series' word-based antics to a series of competitive multiplayer mini-games. Think WarioWare crossed with Scrabble and you're getting into the right ballpark.

As with previous entries in the series, Scribblenauts Showdown centres around writing the name of an object (frankly, there's a ridiculous number of possible objects to bring up) to conjour it into the world and solve an in-game problem. This time out, it might mean summoning an object beginning with 'R' (a rhino? a rat? a raindrop?) to carry through a level, Flappy Bird style, or something beginning with an 'S' to gobble down in an eating contest (that could be a sword - almost anything goes!). There are more than 25 different minigames to try your pen at, and up to four players can get involved.

Warner Brothers hasn't forgotten the series' roots, however. There are eight new levels in Sandbox mode, the game's creative playground, in which one or two players can conjour up items to solve a number of objectives in a way that's part platformer, part puzzler.

Adding to the creativity, players can use a vast array of customisation options to create their own scribblenaut. This is a game that rewards the weird and wonderful, both on screen and off.
