Summary

Taking the DNA of Dark Souls and working it into a 2D action platformer with Castlevania: Symphony of Night vibes is (there's no getting around it) a very fine idea.

As an agent of Death you must hack and slash your way to the heart of Siradon, taking on the immortal guardians of the realm and, if you're doing your job right, relieving them of their immortality.

The combat, in the vein of Dark Souls, is precise and punishing. You have an endurance meter that you must draw on when you want to attack and once you've drained it you'll have to wait for it to fill back up. Endurance, therefore, is a precious resource and the need to conserve it encourages thoughtful and carefully delivered attacks. Attempting to spam your undead enemies will soon see you beaten. If you manage your endurance well enough, however, you can string together a combo that will unleash a devastating magical attack - a feature that encourages an aggressive play style, despite the limitations of your endurance.

The experience is rounded out by some epic boss battles with monsters that are reminiscent of Shadow of the Colossus and will make you feel very, very small.

It's all delivered in a 32bit art style that, despite its pixelated style, is slick, detailed and at times gothicly atmospheric in the extreme.
