Cyberlife was formed as a division of Millennium Interactive, creator of the original Creatures title, with the aim of focussing the developer's artificial life talent. Following the success of the Creature's games, in July 1997 the PlayStation development section was acquired by Sony Computer Entertainment Europe, later to become SCEE Cambridge Studio. In 1999 the company began using the moniker "Creature Labs", and the following year Cyberlife officially took on this name.
