Summary

The point and click adventure game is a dying breed. As game technology advances, game developers will no longer have to make the choice between aesthetically pleasing pre-renders and fluid gameplay. Atlantis is set three thousand years ago on the mystical island of Atlantis. You play the part of Seth, a young man invited to join the Queen’s Companions, one of the elite forces on Atlantis.

You begin your adventure flying high above the island on one of the Atlantian’s finest inventions, a flying boat, which sets you down on the outskirts to the royal palace.

You then have to make your way to the Queen’s Companions’ quarters where you discover that the Queen has been attacked and abducted by a band of mystery assailants. For some reason the royal officials are insistent that the Queen’s Companions should not investigate the matter, a fact that seems strange considering that they are the most loyal of Atlantis’ servants. Ooooh, the intrigue!

The game looks and feels good if a little slow. As with any point and click game the developers must choose between allowing the player free-roam access to the environment and trying to stop him going down useless, annoying and time consuming dead ends. Developers Cryo went with the option of allowing the player to make his own mistakes. Depending on your point of view this is either a good thing or a bad thing. It also begs the question as to whether it’s better to have a game on rails or be allowed to make mistakes.
