Summary

In recent years, there have been an increasing number of retro games that have been revived. Some have been enhanced, others have stayed faithful to the original. The latest franchise to get a new lease of life for the millennium is Cannon Fodder, a classic from the late eighties and early nineties. Since Cannon Fodder has been put forward for development on GameBoy Color, it goes without saying that this version will be as close to the original as possible, due to the technological limitations of the ten-year-old handheld.

Often regarded as a simple version of Command and Conquer, Cannon Fodder once again employs the top-down points of view that were so popular with the original. All the classic weapons have been dusted off, the likes of bazookas and skidoos are at your disposal once again. One particular bonus for this GameBoy Color version is the sheer size of the game – surprising when you consider that GameBoy games aren’t renowned for their longevity. There are 72 playable levels in all, some of which are forty times the size of the screen.

Labelled as the most advanced GameBoy game to date (2000), Cannon Fodder’s revival is guaranteed a warm reception among hardcore gamers and retro fans alike.
