Summary

Developed by Genki, Super Magnetic Neo is a brand new 3D platform title set to inject a degree of originality into a much saturated genre.

Although aimed at people of all ages, you do need to know your physics. Do you remember any of your old school lessons? If so, then it’s time to unlock some of those well hidden memories. This game is all about magnets. In order to progress through this game, you must understand how magnets work. North and south attract; any other combinations will repel, such as south and south. If you can get past this, Super Magnetic Neo will come naturally to you. You must repel magnetic sources to propel your self into the air, or attract yourself towards other magnetic sources. Simple as it sounds, it does require a great deal of concentration.

Super Magnetic Neo’s 3D environments are of a simple but high quality, courtesy of the Dreamcast’s hardware. Most of the game is presented with an “into the screen” point of view, and bears a few similarities to Sony’s Crash Bandicoot on PlayStation. However, the innovation and implementation of magnets proves for quite a unique experience. Super Magnetic Neo finally offers the platform genre a sense of originality, but how long will it be before the next idea comes along?
