Video game tie-ins of big screen movies are now as common as any other video game genre. While some of these games have proven to be valuable to the industrys portfolio, others are better left alone. The thought of Austin Powers on Game Boy is a terrifying prospect that doesnt bear thinking about. Nevertheless, its happened, and while it seems a pointless production, thats not to say its a bad game or no fun to play.
Upon switching on your handheld, you will come across what appears to be a PC start up screen and a memory check. Soon after, you will realise that the nature of this game is to act as a PC desktop. Welcome To My Underground Lair is not so much a single game as it is a PC utility disc. Before getting into one of the games three sub-games, you might as well have a look at some of the other evil stuff. You can customise your fake desktop with a number of backgrounds and even use the games evilator.
The three mini games consist of a Rock, Paper, Scissors contest, a fake Pac-Man game and a weird board game. Surprisingly, each one is actually a lot of fun to play, and strangely addictive. These games also give you the opportunity to battle against your favourite Austin Powers characters, including Felicity Shagwell and Fat Bastard.
Theres nothing special here, but I have no doubt that anyone strange enough to enjoy Austin Powers is going to relish this. There are also three others to collect in the series. Come to me, Mini-Me!
