Summary

Electronic Arts have a long and involved history in making sports simulations for a variety of formats. Following on from FA Manager ’99 and 2000, they bring you Football Manager 2001 – The Premier League. The game’s main improvement from earlier titles is the 3D match view it affords players. You can view the whole game in simulated real-time or choose a 3D highlights option to just watch the fun stuff. Watching the whole of a stale draw between two teams can leave you feeling a little “I need something more constructive to do with myself”

The game incorporates all the major European Leagues with fully comprehensive team lists right the way down to the Vauxhall Conference. The in game options are of a high quality with the ability to give individual players specific instructions.

One of the finer point of the game is the mission based start it gives you. Unlike other football management sims you are given a choice of parameters in which to play presented in the form of an Email from your club’s chairman. For instance the conditions of your employment could be to simply avoid relegation for the following two seasons. You can choose this, or opt for something more difficult like to come within the top five, with 12 million in the bank.
