Summary

Originating in the arcades, the Rampage series has received many updates and sequels, released across a number of home platforms, dating back to the 8-bit days of the NES and Master System. As the most popular platform for the current generation, PlayStation receives a new Rampage title from Midway to continue the series.

The story of Rampage Through Time permits your favourite mutants to go back in time to bash and destroy history as we know it. Also, future events can now be banished through the use of the time machine. Your task is to choose a mutant and create as much chaos and damage as possible. You must destroy anything from suburban houses, to giant skyscrapers. However, you will be up against some of your fellow mutants, who will be attempting to take you out and destroy the buildings for their own benefit. Because of the vast number of locations, this Rampage title has many new environments, both old and new. However, it is a little disappointing not to see the game in 3D after so many years of development, although it does remain faithful to its arcade original.

Buildings aside, there are a whole new set of mini-games to play around with, though this is for fun only, and not an essential part of the game. Thanks to PlayStation’s Multi Tap, there is a 3-player simultaneous option, whereby you can battle with your friends to claim the most buildings. Rampage Through Time is nothing original, but fans of the ongoing series will probably enjoy this umpteenth sequel.
