Summary

SCARS is an acronym for Super Computer Animal Racing Simulation, just in case you were wondering. Now, here comes the original bit. The SCARS cars are actually half-animal, half-machine. A little strange, but you have to give it credit for originality. This is just another racing game at heart, although it is a good one. Based loosely around the winning formula of Mario Kart from Nintendo, SCARS promises to provide some of the most competitive racing in existence. Sufferers of road rage should be made aware that this game isn’t going to do your tempers any good. You have been warned.

First and foremost, the visual capabilities of the Nintendo 64 have been shown in the 64-bit version of SCARS. The racetracks are some of the most lavish and detailed around, with some beautiful light-source effects. The lovely-to-look-at graphics are matched by cleverness and deviousness of the CPU controlled opposition. The use of weapons are critical to your challenge in winning a race. The last thing you want is to be beat at the race line by some kind of mad elephant machine.

SCARS has lots of unique tracks, plenty of weapons and power-up’s, challenging gameplay, and a well thought out progression system. A well designed, fun to play, piece of software.
