The popular scooter craze that is sweeping the nation has finally been converted into a video game. FreeStyle Scooter on the PlayStation is the first game ever to feature a scooter. This has to be a landmark in videogame history. Move over Tony Hawk, youve got some serious competition on your hands.
The plot of the game is a little weak: a giant robot has captured your friends and it is up to you to save them. But then again this doesnt affect the gameplay and gameplay is what matters. Your friends being captured does have its plus points, every time you rescue someone you can pick them to scoot with.
In every level or (skate park) you have several tasks that you have to complete in order to move onto the next level. These tasks include collecting all of the skate tokens, earning a certain score and grinding for a set length. If you do well you will come across a level where you are set a challenge. These challenges are tough, you have a very strict time limit and little margin for error. Its the successful completion of these challenges that save your friends.
Freestyle Scooter plays like Tony Hawks Pro Skater game, which is no bad thing. You hold down X to charge up your jump, square and circle plus different directions give you your tricks and triangle is the button to use for grinds. The tricks that you can do are cool because you hold onto your scooter. 'Supermans' and 'round the world' tricks are the same as professional BMX stunts. Impressive.
Freestyle Scooter is a fun game, but dont try any of these tricks at home.
