Summary

Coming straight from Square is All Star Pro Wrestling on the PlayStation 2. This wrestling game features all of the top grapplers from the Japanese professional league. This game is more like real wrestling than the flamboyant WWF style but that doesn’t detract from the gameplay. Square has spent a lot of time in getting the look of the wrestlers right and they have succeeded. You can see muscles rippling and true facial expressions being used. This adds to the realism of the title as the wrestlers seem to feel pain as devastating moves are executed on them.

The control method is a little strange initially, and it might take some time to get used to. If you are used to pressing buttons to punch, kick or grab then its time to learn a new technique. All Star Pro Wrestling uses both analogue sticks for controlling your character. The left stick is for movement and the right stick is used for attacking. This is weird at first but soon you’ll be rolling the stick 360 degrees to pull off spectacular moves.

All of the wrestlers have their own theme tunes and signature manoeuvres to add to the appeal of playing through the game with each of the virtual competitors. There are loads of game modes and championships to compete in like the G1 Climax tournament and the Best of the Super Jr.

Pro Wrestling is best played with a friend as the game is suited towards this style of play. If you are a PS2-owning wrestling fanatic, All Star Pro Wrestling is worth a look.
