Summary

Disney’s cinema hit, The Lion King, remains a classic in the portfolio of the children’s company. But why leave it at that? Not content with their big-screen success, Disney Interactive has now produced Simba’s Mighty Adventure for PlayStation. Based strongly on the cinematic counterpart, this adventure tells the story of Simba’s challenge to become the king of the beasts, following in his father’s footsteps.

The Lion King takes on the role of a 3D, linear platform game that entails three points of view. Depending on the game level, you will either tackle a traditional side-on scrolling game, or an in-and-out-of-the-screen approach. There are nine stages of the game in total that must be tackled in the order the story is told. You will begin in your home territory, the Pride Lands, and eventually test your wits as a full grown adult against the evil and resentful Scar. Keeping true to the story, you will control Simba through all stages of his childhood and young adult life. As such, you will gain new abilities as you progress. Also, the unlocking of further stages enables you to challenge some of the game’s mini games. Here you will meet up with many of the film’s cast, including the Timon and Pumbaa duo, where you’ll be able to practice your skills as a bug catcher amongst other things.

It is likely that those of you who have already seen the film will have more appreciation for this development. Nevertheless, it has been reasonably well executed, it’s fun to play, and it reaches its target audience with ease.
