Summary

Paris Dakar Rally for the PS2 console tries to faithfully recreate the excruciating 10,000 km cross continental trip. It is a rally drivers dream event, it a massive drain on both the car and contestants, but the stakes are high. Choose either a 4 X 4, a buggy, a motorbike, or a quad bike and start your engines.

There are over 400 drivers that take part in the Paris-Dakar Rally, easily making it one of the biggest desert rallies in the world. The rally starts in Arras, the capital of the Artois area and covers all of France. 10,000 miles and many retirements later, it finishes at the banks of the Lac Rose in Dakar, Africa.

It takes a lot of practice to get used to the controls in this game, but with dedication and perseverance, the game's foibles become familiar. Initially, flipping your chosen vehicle or staying on the road are regular occurrences. But, a few days into the rally, when the controls have become second nature, things start to get easier.

The graphics in Paris – Dakar Rally are functional, but do not really show what the PlayStation 2 is capable of. Sometimes, it is easy to lose sight of the road because it blends in with the background too well. You only notice when you drop a lot of speed, which is a little strange for off road vehicles.

Paris – Dakar Rally is a gruelling endurance race, offering a good challenge and varied gameplay. If you are into rally games, this should tide you over until Colin 3.
