Summary

Unless you’ve been living in a cave for the last ten years or so, you’ll no doubt be familiar with The Simpsons. Essential viewing, whatever age or class you are, The Simpsons’ regular outings on BBC2 and Sky One are a must-see for the smart set. Now the characters from the show are starring in their own brand new wrestling game on the PlayStation. It’s time to roll up your sleeves and settle those grudge matches once and for all.

The Simpsons Wrestling is a game that is aimed at all kinds of gamers, just as the television show has something for everyone. It is easy and fun to learn how to play but there are some more advanced techniques for the more experienced gameplayer. The aim of the game is simple: wear down your opponent’s energy until they can’t take any more punishment and then pin them for three seconds.

This is a very serious game, which is surprising considering the characters involved but then again we’re only joking. This is one beat-em-up that will make you laugh, there are catchphrases galore and there are loads of comedy animations. Hearing Homer exclaim “Why you little…” out of the blue is guaranteed to raise a smile at least. Each of the characters responds uniquely to their opponent, which is a nice touch.

In The Simpsons Wrestling game, you have three different attacks available to you and a gauge that determines your power. You can only perform moves when you have enough power, but don’t worry, the attack gauge slowly builds back up. Punches and kicks are the most common attack method, your medium attack is usually projectile-based (like a bowling ball) and finally, your third attack is unique to your character. Homer, for example, turns into a super-sized version of himself and inflicts massive damage when he’s in this mode.

With easy to learn gameplay, and plenty of comedy, this is one title you will keep coming back to.
