Summary

Strategy games are audience specific at the best of times, designed to meet the desires of many ardent PC players. And when the subject of trading and management is brought into the equation, most players would run a mile. But every so often, a software house produces a thoroughly playable game, one that stands out as being complex, but strangely, is easy to play. It is this strategy that often proves beneficial both to the consumer and to the developer. Take 2’s Merchant Prince 2 is one such title.

Set in a time where wealth was of the utmost importance, Merchant Prince 2 takes you on a strategic adventure in which you must challenge pirates, brave storms and cross the globe in a quest to acquire the ultimate source of moolah. The game essentially consists of a vast series menu systems, and while this may seem a little uninteresting and disheartening, the game has been constructed for ease of use on the player’s part. Once you begin your turn-based journey, you will soon come across many opportunities to obtain cash and assets, many of which are extremely unorthodox. Bribes and poisons, for example, are a great way to seize valuables, but don’t bite off more than you can chew. To be successful in your mission you will have to trade with many dominant cultures, threaten senators and even raid households. To keep up with the times, Merchant Prince 2 allows you to research and develop up to 30 technologies that include civic sanitation and cult followings. Kitchen sink, anyone?

With all the aforementioned features incorporated into a multi-player-capable strategy game, Merchant Prince 2 is certainly an appealing title.
