Summary

Confident young man, that Prince Naseem, and there’s no denying his gloating is justified. In fact, he’s so popular that a boxing game has been produced bearing his name. Titled Prince Naseem Boxing (duh), the Game Boy Color version is continuing the success of the PlayStation original.

Naturally, Nas Boxing on GBC is doesn’t possess the visual loveliness of its PlayStation counterpart but it does the 8-bit platform proud. The game is played in a top-down perspective and boasts a surprising amount of graphical detail, particularly when flicking though the character selection screens.

There are four modes of play to participate in, including Showcase, World and Practice Mode. You are able to play as one of sixteen well-known boxers, but Prince Naseem is without a doubt the popular choice in the game. If you’re feeling really cocky you can take on the ultimate boxer himself. Whether you want to participate in one-off bouts, or fight your way to the top to become the ultimate world champion, there’s lots to do. But the icing on the cake lies in the two player link-up option. Provided you have a friend less than two metres away, you can battle each other until your batteries run out.

There are plenty of moves to perform that can be executed by means of button and d-pad combinations. If you can perfect a series of combos, you should have a lot of fun with Prince Naseem Boxing. It’s not exactly a boxing simulator, but it’s the best of its kind on the Game Boy Color.
