Summary

Ubi Soft’s foray into the real-time strategy genre is increasing rapidly, and Kohan: Immortal Sovereigns, developed by TimeGate, is their next epic PC release. There is a mystery to solve, and you are the detective.

After a series of cataclysmic events, a race of creatures called the Kohan have been decimated and their power over the world has been taken from them. Since their natural immortality prevents their extinction, they have begun to resurface. Your challenge as the player is to help the Kohan regain what was once theirs and restore their status as rulers of their world.

Although Kohan has a distinct RPG feel about it, it remains purely a real-time strategy game. Most of the game entails the player wandering through numerous environments and destroying the opposition by whatever means necessary. You will always have a group of fighters, but there are as many as 40 different units, each with unique strengths and weaknesses. Often, units with a higher attack value will move more slowly. Achieving the right balance of power, visual range, zone of control and movement is the key to winning battles in Kohan. As per usual, control of your ‘army’ revolves around efficient use of the mouse. This allows players to select specific groups of fighters and assign them to certain locations in the playing area.

Overall, this hardcore real-time strategy game is a comprehensive experience, allowing its players superior freedom of control. Kohan has a highly addictive quality about it that will have the player hooked for a long, long time.
