Summary

As the quest for the ultimate virtual driving experience continues to challenge games developers, Empire Interactive steps into the fray with not only an authentic physics engine, but a clever opponent AI system. Total Immersion Racing, as the title suggests, strives to create an immersive gameplay environment, offering high quality driving technology and real-world vehicles and tracks.

The main focus of the game is the career mode, in similar vein to that of the legendary Gran Turismo, which casts players as a rookie race driver and starts them off at the bottom of the rankings. From here, the player can choose a career path that leads from being the lowest ranked driver of a GT sports car all the way to becoming a world champion driving a massively powerful eight litre prototype. On the way, team engineers and managers are on hand, giving advice and input to guide the player.

Where developers Razorworks have concentrated a lot of their attention is the opponent AI system. Players are pitted against an array of other drivers, each having their own unique personalities, driving styles and responses. Every action taken by the player is subsequently balanced by an appropriate reaction from the opponents - upset someone and you may find yourself subject to a revenge attempt; keep out of everyone's way and you're more likely to have an easier time on and off the track.

Whilst the focus here is on authenticity and faithful simulation, proceedings still remain light enough to entertain the more casual gamer, making for an all-round accessible racing title.
