Summary

For those of you not entirely clued up on the racing genre, Ben Hur is a chariot racing game of mythical proportions, and quite possibly only the second game of its kind to exist after Circus Maximus on Xbox.

In a mighty quest for the ultimate accolade, to become a Legend, racers of the chariot league must compete across the most mythical places of the Antiquity, from Pompeii to Olympus. But there's more to a Godly tournament than a wooden cart, a couple of horses and some reins - you'll have to use weapons, spells, speed and tactics to gain first place.

To begin a successful tournament, you'll first have learn the basics of chariot racing - remember, you're not in direct control of the race, the horses are. You must simply manage the drive and stamina of your horses carefully to maintain a steady pace.

Once you've learnt to how get from A to B, you need to know a little about weapons. This side of Ben Hur is much more fun, but it can be equally frustrating. Wielding weapons such as javelins, axes and swords, you must keep the competition behind you. But they have weapons too and evading their nasty onslaughts of projectiles and sharp sticks is far more difficult.

Failing that, a little magic can help turn things around no end. Not only can you set magic traps and gain skill upgrades, you can also heal yourself to stay in the race. Ultimately, you could say Ben Hur is a softcore RPG with chariots. Sounds weird, but it's true, and it certainly is fun.
