Anyone not familiar with the concept of Indy racing need only know the following: it basically consists of 3.5 litre F1-type cars and oval tracks. Subsequently, it's fast. Very fast. In fact, we're talking '0 - 100mph in less than three seconds' fast. The actual Indy Racing season is an open-wheeled championship, which takes place on short ovals and super speedways across the United States, including California and Texas, with the renowned Indy 500 featuring as the highlight of its racing calendar.

IndyCar Series is based on this popular US motorsport, appearing in the form of a high-paced action racer, complete with authentic vehicle handling. Staying true to its subject matter, the game also places a heavy emphasis on recreating the sport's explosive collisions. Designed to be accessible, exciting and entertaining, the game features adrenaline-fuelled, ultra-close pack racing, with up to 33 cars racing on track.

The concept behind the gameplay is strictly based on the deployment of real life Indy Racing tactics. As such, players have to look at more than merely going as fast as possible, thumb firmly squeezing the accelerator. The game also demands attention to such details as close manoeuvres at high speeds, using drafting to overtake, maximising grip in the racing line, and switching fuel settings between speed or economy.

As the game is fully licensed, there's a wealth of authentically reproduced, real life elements to be found. Namely, all the official teams and drivers are in there, as are 14 real tracks, a total of 27 cars, and 15 action-packed races. An authentic Indy 500 mode is also available, featuring the renowned sporting event and allowing you to make it through Bump Day to compete as one of the drivers and race 500 miles on the world-famous Brickyard circuit.

Keeping with the authentic idea is the game's attention to detail, which, as well as featuring all the official rules and flags, boasts such intricacies as a dynamic track surface that affects grip at differing temperatures. As well as all this, we're also treated to accurate in-game re-creations that include fully animated pit crews, field marshals, clean-up crews and vehicles.

Although not immensely well known worldwide, Indy Racing is extremely popular on its home turf. IndyCar Series brings the sport to your PC very faithfully and should be experienced by everyone.
