Summary

For many years, sports games have focused on competitions, leagues and tournaments. But as gaming continues to evolve, we’re beginning to see a new side to sports games, a side that focuses on the racers themselves. A side that tracks their career, financial status, and even their personal life. One such game is Acclaim’s SX Superstar.

Your first objective before you can participate in a race is to choose a character to play as. Once done, your goal in the main game is to transform your poorhouse racer into a penthouse superstar through skilled racing, winning as much money as possible. Once you get the ball rolling and begin lining your pockets with hard cash, you’ll also find yourself surrounded by a number of tall, big-breasted ‘ladies’ just desperate to hook up with you… or your cash. Fortunately, gold diggers can’t get hold of your cash so make the most of your fame – enjoy.

It is a strange aspect for a sports game, but one that’s intriguing and one that does, to an extent, motivate the player to carry on racing.

But it is still a Supercross racing game, in which you must race ultra-fast motorbikes and perform dangerous stunts. There are 24 racers in all, all with individual styles and attitudes, and a respectable 20 tracks that cover stadium circuits to street and country circuits. Each of the circuits will test your ability as a racer and as a stuntman, and with the option of a track editor and multi-player gaming, SX Superstar has great longevity. Overall, it’s another bike-em-up, but one that’s definitely worth a look.
