Summary

Though the console versions of Ty the Tasmanian Tiger 2 understandably receive more attention than the handheld equivalent, that's not to say that the GBA game isn't every bit as accomplished as the 128-bit game. On the contrary, the first portable rendition of the series is basically a shrunk-down version of the 3D offering played in a classic scrolling environment, which is no bad thing.

Not just set in the Bush as you might expect, Ty's second adventure also sees him partaking in frenetic road races and infiltrating enemy bases in a platform game that has just as much style and humour as its console counterparts. The bulk of the game sees Ty traversing numerous vast, multi-tiered landscapes with the aid of an upgradeable boomerang that serves as your primary weapon throughout. Your objective is always clear here, and though the game's massive locales take some exploring, a constant stream enemy attacks and collectibles helps to maintain a steady pace suitable for any player.

Controls consist of the usual run, jump and fire mechanism, as well as the addition of a glide function that will help Ty overcome those seemingly impossible platform leaps.

All of the above combined with superb animation, cut-scenes and witty dialogue ensures that Ty 2 on GBA delivers just about everything the console games have to offer. Ty is quickly making a name for himself in the world of interactive entertainment - expect more from the Aussie star in the coming years.
