Summary

The long-running genre of the basketball games has proved immensely popular over the last twenty years. From NBA Jam on SNES, to the latest version of NBA Live, they prove popular not just with fans of the sport, but with the general public as well. Next on the list is Zoo Digital's more unorthodox handheld offering, Street Jam.

Played outside of the law in 'underground' streetwise competitions, matches in Street Jam are only won by the fastest and hardest hoop-shooters, not those who live by the rules. Partaking in simple three-on-three events, players will first have to choose a team before taking to the court in any of five varied locales, ranging from back-alleys to sun-kissed beaches.

Tactics, aggression and plain old dirty tricks are the order of the day in Street Jam. Accompanied by a simple and fluid control system, players must shoot, steal and fight their way into ranks of basketball respect by conquering an array of game mode and tournaments.

There are some 40 standard characters and a number of star players up for the fight, which players are able to hand-pick from, and they can even go head-to-head with another via a trusty link cable.

Environments are suitably detailed, smooth, and have an atmosphere in keeping with the theme of Street Jam. Overall, it's a convincing, straight-forward basketball game with an edge.
