Summary
Though the first we saw of the pink marshmallow on Game Boy Advance was Nightmare in Dreamland, this game proved to be little more than a port of the NES original. It was undeniably fun, but ardent Kirby fanatics wanted something new, and so The Amazing Mirror was born - a brand new platformer complete with classic Kirby gameplay and multi-player shenanigans.
In this next episode of the popular HAL series, the player sees Kirby split into four different egos whilst fending off a somewhat threatening shadow of evil before it's too late. Okay it's lame, but at least it's interesting. In fact for Kirby it's a normal day at the office.
As most of you will expect, Kirby's new world, though aesthetically unique, is really more of the same. In solo mode, players will roam a series of themed worlds in a classic scrolling platformer that has Kirby performing his usual library of jumps and punches.
However, fresh elements are introduced when Kirby is accompanied by his other three selves and their special abilities. Mid-game, players are able to call their alter egos into action via a trusty cell-phone that must be kept charged by collecting batteries. Their abilities can be used to negotiate several otherwise impossible areas of the game.
And players not content with computer-controlled partners can link up with three others in a co-operative adventure that is remarkably well executed. Furthermore, there's a plethora of playable party games for all you gaming socialites.
The Amazing Mirror is a welcome platformer to the GBA hardware and we very much doubt it'll be the last we see of Kirby and his friends.
