Summary

We've always thought the future looks bleak, what with bird flu, terrorism, the continuing popularity of the Kaiser Chiefs and all that, but apparently we don't have as bleak a world view as developer Flagship Studios.

Hellgate: London thrusts players into the year 2038, 18 years after the start of a horrific war. Hellish, in fact. Because (you guessed it) it's no ordinary war. In fact, it's a war with hell. The Knights Templar have always stood between demonic forces and the mortal plane, but this attack found them unprepared after many forgot the old ways in favour of technology. They did their best, but, well, there's a reason it's 18 years on and there's still a game to be played around the conflict.

All is not lost, however. The Freemasons built the London Underground to be demon-proof, and it now acts as a safe haven for those still fighting the demons. That's where you step in. Choosing from one of three classes, you'll fight the forces of darkness using both magic and technology, blending both RPG and first-person shooter elements.

The game can be played both through single-player campaign and online. Users can additionally opt to pay a monthly fee and get extra content and privileges sent their way.

Random generation of maps, monsters and loot will allow for oodles of playability, not to mention the feeling that your next armour upgrade is just around the corner.
