Summary

The PC game, Sid Meier's Railroads! is back in full 3D, with in-game customisation tools, a streamlined interface and multiplayer options. The game combines the best of real-world and model railroads, putting you in charge of building the greatest rail empire in all of America. You must manage your empire, while engaging in corporate warfare against rival tycoons, entrepreneurs and robber barons.

All players have to do to make their empire come to life is lay the track and route the trains. Railway stations, tunnels and bridges pop up automatically where they're needed. Cities and industries grow around you as service them. Passengers travel between cities and cargos are loaded onto train cars. There are over 30 trains in the game, including the 0-4-0 Planet, the 4-6-6-4 Challenger and a host of modern bullet trains.

Sid Meier's Railroads! is one of those games that is very easy to pick up and play but extremely difficult to master. Random events can cause a boom or bust at any time. Therefore, players must always stay wary. If they don't, they risk financial collapse, hostile takeover or obsolescence.

Players can - if they wish - design their own steam engine from the ground up, with the LocoBuilder feature and deploy it across their rail empire. They have the ability to customise their own train liveries with logos and colour schemes. Another feature of Railroads! is the scenario and map editor, enabling - you guessed it - players to create their own maps and scenarios. It is also possible for gamers to build their dream train layout in Train Table Mode, or challenge historical giants like J.P. Morgan, Cornelius Vanderbilt and others in single-player scenarios.

Sid Meier's Railroads! has a great multiplayer element, with ruthless real-time LAN and Internet play. Whether you prefer cooperative team play or taking on allcomers on your own, you certainly won't be disappointed with the fantastic multiplayer features that are included in this title from 2K Games.
