Summary

Disgaea 2 is the sequel to Disgaea: Hour of Darkness, developed by Nippon Ichi. Like its predecessor, Disgaea 2 is a RPG packed with tactical gameplay and a wicked sense of humour. Fans will be glad to know that the sequel returns with more of what made the first game such a pleasure to play and a whole new bunch of cunning tricks.

A powerful Overlord by the name of Zenon has cursed the human population of Veldime. All its inhabitants have turned into hideous demons and will stay that way if the curse is not broken. Players assume the role of a young man named Adell, the only human not to be affected by the curse. To break the curse and restore order to Veldime, you must defeat Zenon.

As in the first game, the story is broken down into chapters, each containing a set of battle stages. Between those stages, you are free to return to your castle to heal your party, strengthen items, trade and create new characters. Clearing stages and earning bonuses provides the experience to grow items and characters and to unlock new worlds and character classes. Combat takes place in an isometric perspective, on a 3D battlefield with 2D characters, the proven standard for turn-based battle.

Disgaea's humorous aspect is one of its most endearing features, and has been taken to a whole different level with the new Dark Court System. The more devilish a player is, the greater he or she will be rewarded. However, it is important to be careful, as there are positive and negative results for everything you do in the game. For example, if you think you are more evil than you really are, you will probably get summoned to court and suffer the indignity of being found innocent. Yes, you read it properly - innocent!

Fans of the original will be delighted to hear that there is a host of new faces, including Taro, Rozalin and Tink, as well as many of the original characters from the first game, such as Laharl, Flonne and Etna, all ready to do battle.
