If you're used to pounding the boards in classic basketball simulation titles, you're in for a shocker with Midway's NBA Ballers: Chosen One. It's so unlike your typical basketball game that we'd be tempted to say it isn't one at all... if it wasn't for all the basketball playing going on. But you get the gist – this ain't your daddy's basketball game. It doesn't have a franchise mode, it doesn't have injuries or fatigue, it doesn't even have five on five basketball!
What it does have is one on one and one on two over-the-top basketball action that is almost more like a beat 'em up than it is a sports game. Players will create their own Baller then face off, pulling out different moves that the defence will then have to counter.
Adding to the beat 'em up feel is the new combo system which takes players into a kind of minigame when activated, prompting players to hit the correct buttons in time to pull off an awesome move.
Taking it even further is the new super move system that opens up nigh-impossible moves to each of the NBA stars that has lent their name to the game. As you take each one down through the story mode you'll acquire their moves, being able to line up five for each game before things get underway.
As you'd expect, Chosen One comes complete with a multiplayer mode that allows you to compete against your mates either locally or online, and it's here that all those super moves you've banked will really come into play.
If you're looking for a sports sim that goes beyond the norm (both in terms of games and what the human body can typically do!) then NBA Ballers: Chosen One should be a slam dunk.
