Summary

Way back somewhere near the dawn of time (2003) a little game going by the name of Disgaea: Hour of Darkness, introduced gamers inclined toward strategy gaming to some rather loveable penguin sorts called the Prinnies. Now, after much (often gratuitous) punishment, one of the little penguin dudes (a little confusingly-named Prinny, too) has his own game!

Prinny: Can I Really be the Hero? takes the little chap and thrusts him into a comical action platformer. At the start Prinny reports to Master Etna (who might sound a little familiar). She's really not too happy about her missing dessert, so it's off to find the legendary pudding (dubbed the Ultra Dessert, if you were wondering) you go!

As well as straight up jumping, Prinny is armed with as double jump, Hip Pound, a dash and his trusty knives. We still can't decide whether you should trust a penguin with knives...

As you progress you'll pick up orbs that unlock characters lurking around the game's hub, Prinny HQ. These guys will provided you with plentiful unlockables, including detailed reports on the game's monsters, battle stats and other special prizes.

Prinny is not for your casual platform player. It's notably punishing, with the catch being that you start the game with a life limit of 1,000. That might seem pretty liberal, but wait until you get playing!
