Summary

Usually it's not pleasant to be in the company of a stalker. But for the Russian government, secret agent Major Degtyarev is a pretty dependable chap to fall back on when the chips are down. Following the events in Shadow of Chernobyl, the government discovers an open path to the Zone's core, in which they conduct a large-scale military operation to take the CNPP under control.

The mission fails and no intel is available to determine what really happened to the troops. Degtyarev – an experienced stalker that is able to poach items and data that can fetch a high price on the black market – is sent into the Zone to collect information on the mission and discover the truth.

And what is the Zone, exactly? It's a contaminated area that is close by the the Chernobyl disaster site – a desolate landscape with treacherous changing environments and even deadlier foes in the form of rival stalkers. Weather hazards are a problem and dynamically change during the day or night, which means Degtyarev needs to ensure his route to the truth is as safe as possible.

The world is set up in a non-linear fashion, with over 70 missions to tackle and extended side-quests to keep your stalker status alive. New mutant monsters in the Chimera and Burer offer a significant challenge to the ardent S.T.A.L.K.E.R fan, and once you're done with the story there's an opportunity to continue the game in a freeplay mode.
