Summary

Speak to anyone about the core principle of Real Time Strategy games, and you'll get the same answer; tactics. It's all about maintaining a level of unpredictability with your opponent, the idea that they can't see your next move. R.U.S.E takes that concept a step further by heavily relying on tricks and traps and calling your enemy's own bluff.

The game's IRISZOOM engine is impressive to look at – you begin the game from the viewpoint of a traditional politician's war room, watching little models move around as you dictate your strategy. But the action can be zoomed in on, in real time, to a level where you can watch the battle unfold right in front of you.

Rather than strategy, R.U.S.E's developers like to think this game is more about a battle of perception. Use recon units and spying network to gather intelligence about your enemy, and then use various deception skills to confuse them and strike them in their weak spots. The campaign mode sees you journey from Captain to Chief in Command, with each battle more difficult than the last.

And when you've lived the solo life, drag your friends and bitter enemies into the war with 8-player skirmishes covering co-operative and adversarial situations. If you're a bit of a sneaky chap in real life, you should have no trouble with this game.
