Summary

Operation Flashpoint is well-known for its ultra-realistic simulation experiences, and Red River is no exception. Plonking you right in the middle of a hypothetical war in the near future, the squad that you roll with have to deal with Middle-Eastern insurgents from Tajikistan as well as a returning threat from the Chinese PLA. You’ll be fighting for your life in missions set alongside the Vakhsh River, with deadly scenarios throughout. No pressure, then.

To make things a bit easier on you - and to improve on the somewhat hardcore nature of the previous title, Dragon Rising - Red River does away with the hardcore ‘one hit and you’re down’ feature, has rid the series of any competitive multiplayer modes (at least for the time being - all the online features involve co-op play) and refined the maps, missions and HUD to give the player a more immersive action-packed experience.

A deeper narrative-led campaign, streamlined inventory and control system, a refined enemy and squad AI system, and player class roles including customisable XP upgrades makes Red River the most engaging, action-packed game in the series. And that’s to say nothing of the extensive co-operative modes that allow friends to team up and complete challenges together online.
