Summary

Realms of Reverie – the sixth instalment of Square Enix’s classic Dragon Quest series - has been remade and re-translated for the Nintendo DS and for western gamers. This version even comes with Slime mini-games.

The gamer gets to play Murdaw, the Demon lord of Darkness, as they battle strange and exotic characters in magical locations over two mystical worlds. The turn-based game calls for the gamer to explore as well as fight their way to the conclusion of a deep mystery: what links the two worlds.

Not only are there towns and dungeons to discover as the mystery unravels, but the player must also be able to defend themselves against surprise attacks from a range of opposing forces.

Attack as well as defence is called for, and both can be carried out using a variety of physical weapons (and other items) as well as by spell-casting. Of course, there is always the option to flee and fight again. All actions successfully carried out will award the gamer with valuable experience points that can be used to acquire and develop skills and strength. Collectable items, including money, can also be used to level up.

Gamers can play as Warrior, Martial Artist, Mage, Priest, Dancer, Thief, Merchant, Gadabout and Monster Master, each of which has seven attribute: strength, agility, resilience, wisdom, attack, defence and style.

There are also Slime characters which can then be used in the Slimopolis arena to compete in tournaments against powerful monsters to win unique prizes.
