When it comes to ice hockey, really only the National Hockey League will do. For the new winter season 2012, EA Sports’ Canada studio has brought improvements plus all the major franchises to play.
The “Be a Pro” mode has been updated and improved for NHL 12. The gamer must guide their in-game player from rookie to Stanley Cup stardom. Along the way there is scope to create legendary moments on the ice, smash world and league records and become a major individual star.
The more skills learned and honed, the better the gamer plays on the ice, the more ice-time they get. With plenty of playing conditions to experience – and opposition as well as their own teammates to get used to – the road to ultimate Stanley Cup success is long and challenging.
The Full Contact Physics Engine in NHL 12 means that everything on the ice is live and can be interacted with. From opposing players to the arena itself (advertising hoardings, barriers) everything is in play and will react.
The physics engine means that glass will shatter, helmets will fly, players will be smacked down – even the net and goalie can be knocked out of the way. As it’s a realistic engine however, mass, size and speed all come into the equation so the skill factor is essential.
In terms of goalies, for the first time in EA NHL history dynamic goalies are available. So, while they can be knocked over and out of the way, they can can also come rapidly into play with lightning fast saves and blocks. The netminders will also get to take part in the return of in-game fights with all-new goalie battles. Leave the net, drop a glove... battle commences.
Also added for the first time is the 2011 NHL Winter Classic at Heinz Field in Pittsburgh – and all the gaming action comes with an authentic TV broadcast feel.
