Summary

You know the old(ish) saying – 'War (huh). What is it good for?' The phrase does have a nice ring to it, but it misses the really obvious answer. It's good for inspiring games that can be enjoyed from the safety of a living room in which absolutely no real people get hurt. That might not seem like much of an answer, but it does bring us to Tiny Troopers.

Originally released on the iPhone, the game has you guiding lots and lots of tiny soldiers through an unnamed (but quite familiar) warzone, giving them the orders that will win the day. Built around a simple, easy to understand user interface, it's more in line with the likes of Worms than Total War.

Players complete missions including obliterating enemy armoured vehicles, rescuing hostages and taking out enemy generals. They'll be faced with infantry, technicals, snipers and tanks. Expect plenty of casualties, but plenty of new recruits to swell the ranks. Any troops that survive will shoot up the ranks, earning stripes that make them tougher.

You will, of course, have the opportunity to upgrade and improve your soldiers. Spend Command Points to get better kit and specialist troops such as machine gunners, medics and delta force.

And that, right there, is what war's good for.
