Summary
The offbeat Mario & Luigi RPG series is back, making its debut on the 3DS! The game opens with Princess Peach bringing Mario and Luigi along for a tour of the mysterious Pi'illo Island, which is run by its even more mysterious proprietor, Dr Snoozemore. Things go downhill, though, when - you guessed it - Princess Peach is kidnapped. And, even worse, she's pulled into the Dream World by the ethereal bat king Antasma.
To rescue Peach, Mario must enter the Dream World through the dreams of Luigi so he can battle enemies, solve puzzles and do battle with the very stuff of Luigi's dreams! It's all a bit bonkers, but don't let it worry you - the plot is all about introducing the new gameplay style brought about by splitting the action between the 'real' world and the Dream World.
In the real world players can wander round freely in a top-down style similar to that of the 2D Legend of Zelda games. Players can explore at their leisure, interacting with the environment, discovering hidden objects and entering into turn-based combat.
In the Dream World, however, the power of Dreamy Luigi is all important in supporting Mario. Players can interact with the sleeping Luigi, displayed on the bottom screen, to make things happen in the Dream World. They might tweak his moustache or scratch his nose, for example, to affect the environment in a way that benefits Mario.
Similarly, players can initiate Luiginary attacks, brand new moves which make use of the 3DS's unique fuctionality. You might, for example, have Mario riding round on a ball of Luigis, Katamari style, using the 3DS's motion controls.
If you're looking for a bigger, deeper experience than Mario games typically offer, look no further!
