Summary

Three AAA stealth games in one box!

Thief

You play as Garrett, the Master Thief, haunting the City and getting to places no-one else can. The Baron's Watch is spreading a tide of oppression and fear, and Garrett can only trust his own abilities. When an uprising emerges, however, Garrett finds himself caught up in the rising tide of revolution. If he doesn't get involved, there's going to be blood on the streets.

As you might expect of a game titled 'Thief', there's a heavy focus on stealth. In fact, the game tends to work best when you avoid combat altogether. Helping this along is Garrett's Swoop ability, which enables him to glide from shadow to shadow. There's also a 'focus' ability which, similar to the likes of detective vision in the Batman: Arkham games, highlighs loot, switches, traps and items.

Hitman: Absolution

The end of Hitman: Blood Money saw 47's handler, Diana Burnwood, effectively running the International Contract Agency (ICA) since she and 47 were the only employees remaining alive. At the start of Absolution, 47 is sent to assassinate Diana in a safe house where she has been hiding for some time. It seems that Diana has betrayed the ICA and stolen some valuable property, a little girl called Victoria.

So begins the latest set of Hitman missions, as before you'll have objectives to complete by killing certain targets, only this time you'll be acting more on your own, piecing together the story behind Diana's betrayal.

Agent 47 has obviously been training in his six years off since he's picked up a few new abilities. The major addition is Instinct Mode, which replaces the level maps from previous games with something more like Eagle Sense or Detective Vision. Enemies are located through walls, targets are flagged, items of interest are pointed out and the level or area exit is highlighted.

Another addition, your Instinct meter can be used to evade notice when wearing a disguise or to line up several head-shots at once to quickly take down a room of enemies.

Deus Ex: Human Revolution

It’s 2027. It’s 25 years before the events of the original Deus Ex. This means no nanotech and that means no nanotech augmentation for the game’s protagonist, Adam Jensen. Instead of nano-augmentation, Adam is armed (and eyed) with more simplistic bio-mechanical augmentation.

Adam Jensen works in a security capacity for leading biotech company Sarif Industries. Following an attack on the company that leaves him horribly injured Jensen - voiced by Elias Toufexis – is himself augmented. His job is, of course, to discover the cause of the attacks. But who is trustworthy? Sarif Industries? Or its enemies? Or no one?

The gamer gets through to the heart of the conspiracy in a number of different ways depending on the decisions made by the player at key moments during gameplay. These options include: Combat, which requires the player to use ranged-weapons in all-out attacks appealing to the fan of bold play; stealth, in this option handguns and short-range weapons are the order of the day. But so is close-up, hand-to-neck battling. And, with hacking, the player must puzzle solve, hack machinery and generally make the environment work for themself. Alternatively, with exploration, the player routes around danger by finding additional less direct routes to his or her destination. Then there's social - basically talk to the other characters and use them to your advantage. It's a package that offers plenty of options and encourages sound strategy.
