Summary

Coming from Ubisoft's newest studio, Blue Byte, Anno 2205 picks up the baton from Anno 2070 and runs even further with it.

The setting is, once again, the future. This time, things have moved even further along and the moon is, once again, a place mankind is interested in going to. A breakthrough in fusion energy generation is promising to revolutionise all aspects of human society, but there's a catch. The necessary isotope, helium-3, is only found in harvestable quantities on the moon.

So it is that players will build out their cities on Earth, then head to the moon in a race to gain resources and power. Notably, the game is built on the notion of multi-session play, so players will gradually build the cities they want to see. Resources can be traded between cities, meaning that cities can specialise in different areas.

There's an almost nostalgic feel to the science fiction on show. Flying cars are everywhere, turbine-like desalination plants rest on the surface of the ocean, Arks from Anno 2070 are being mined for their tech and the equatorial spaceport even has a space elevator. On the moon, things have a look all of their own that's reminiscent of the 1970s moon landings - all squat prefab bunkers, though admittedly with huge mining engines and hydroponic hothouses thrown in.

What are you waiting for? The future isn't going to build itself!
