Summary

Knack is back.

The original was a launch title for the PlayStation 4, but this sequel looks like the place where the series really comes into its own. The core of this action platformer is the titular hero's ability to change size. As you progress, you collect items called relics that enable Knack can add to his bulk in order to grow in size, then shed again to tackle the demands of tighter spaces or more intricate puzzles. The result is that Knack can manoeuvre from tight puzzle solving to rampaging through stages and decimating every enemy in his path. More has been made of this ability in Knack 2 than in the original, with a stronger emphasis on platforming and more regular checkpoints to allow a smoother progression than the original.

Knack 2 takes place about a year after then original. The story centres on the destruction of a city and how Knack and his pals fight back. That means combat, and that's been expanded since the hero's first outing, too. Basic moves such as kick, jump and slam are backed up be chain manoeuvre, dodges, weapons and special moves. In cooperative mode players can even team up to execute moves on each other and pull off even more powerful weapons attacks. Throw in an upgrade tree that offers upwards of 30 boosts and special moves and you have a much deeper combat experience than in the original.

Determined to leave no-one behind, Sony has included three different difficulty modes to ensure that Knack 2 has plenty to offer beginners and gaming veterans alike.
