The Long Reach - PS4

Right around the corner from a place you might live (or visit, at least, if you're not a resident of North America) something has gone very, very wrong. In the town of Baervox, New Hampshire, some science has gone and gotten a bit mad and now your nightmares and dreams no longer require sleep to manifest. At least, that's what you're told. All you know for sure is that lots of big, weird stuff is happening and everyone's a potential enemy with a dark, cannibalistic streak.

Developer Painted Black Games is certainly living up to its name, in any case.

The Long Reach plays out as a classic adventure game, drawn out in bleak pixel art. You'll solve puzzles, interact with other characters and, sometimes, run away as fast as you possibly can. Running away is encouraged, in fact. So is thinking out of the box. One way or another, you're unlikely to get very far in The Long Reach by following your standard adventure game responses. To make things even more unnerving, seemingly innocuous decisions made early on could have potentially far-reaching consequences.

The Long Reach is a dark, gruesome adventure playing out in the place where you buy your groceries. No glowing swords or dystopic nightmares here, just a whole lot of horror you wished you'd never seen... more
