Summary

Avalanche, the studio behind the massively successful open world action Just Cause series, has gone in a slightly unexpected direction with theHunter. Eschewing the fast-paced, over the top antics of the franchise it made its name on, the studio has made a quieter, more meditative game that nonetheless places a lot of emphasis on tension and skill.

theHunter: Call of the Wild offers players huge open world environments in which to immerse themselves in nature and see if they have the skill to kill some of the world's most exciting game.

This is no run-and-gun shootfest. First you'll need to track and find your prey, something that requires keen observation and patience. As you sneak up on it, stealth is crucial. If you disturb some brush or break a branch, there's every chance the stag you're stalking will hear you and bolt, remaining on high alert and potentially sending any other potential kills bolting.

Similarly, taking your shot requires a lot of precision. If you don't take it down with your first shot, you might not get a second. theHunter: Call of the Wild is certainly a game that rewards patience and care, while immersing the player some of the most beautiful environments on the planet.

Call of the Wild was originally released in 2017, but this 2019 edition throws in all the DLC released since, including the wild landscapes of the Vurhonga Savanna in Africa.
