Fitness Boxing - Switch

For a hot minute fitness games on the Wii were the biggest deal in gaming. The Wii was two generations of home console ago, though, and in between it and the Switch we had the less motion-focused Wii U, which let people forget that standing up and waving your arms about maniacally was ever a thing you did with a games console. Imagineer hasn't forgotten, though. With the Switch's Joy-con controllers players have a lot of freedom to move again and so, in the grand tradition of the Wii the developer has brought us Fitness Boxing.

Holding the Joy-cons players can learn moves and take part in boxing-themed workouts that will get their body moving and their blood pumping. The basic gameplay mechanics work like a rhythm game - cues flow up the screen and you have to make the move indicated by the icon on screen at just the right moment (boxing is all about timing, after all). It helps that you'll be backed by instrumental versions of pop hits, of course. You'll be punching, weaving and squatting before you know it!

Sessions range from 10 to 40 minutes and there are both high- and low-intensity options to be chosen from. You'll pick and customise a trainer to make sure you feel comfortable with them and the game can estimate the calories you're burning based on your body mass index (BMI), just like having a coach in your living room with you. As you improve you'll get access to more challenging training circuits, too, to make sure you're always improving. Plus, it can be played in tabletop mode, so wherever you are there's no excuse to miss a session.

Because training's often more fun with friends you can get stuck in to some local multiplayer, too, with players working in tandem or facing off while using a single Joy-con each.
