Summary

For beat-'em-up fans, the appearance of a fighting game from Arc System Works on the Nintendo Switch is a pretty huge event. The developer behind Guilty Gear and the licensed Dragon Ball Fighter Z is the biggest name in anime fighters and a beloved fixture in the hardcore gaming landscape. BlazBlue: Central Fiction Special Edition serves up a massive helping of that fast-paced, super weird anime action to Switch owners for the first time.

There's enough content in this box to give you an ice cream headache. It's an enhanced port of the original PS3 and PS4 release in 2016, and it comes with all the DLC packed in. That means there's upwards of 40 hours of story mode featuring over 30 unique characters duking it out over more than 60 stages and a host of different modes. This is the final chapter in the Ragna the Bloodedge saga, culminating in a heart-pounding finale!

The gameplay is, as you'd expect from the BlazBlue series, technical and combo heavy. If you're new to it (or just fancy an easier cruise through story mode to hear some of the Japanese voice work) you can opt to try 'stylish' mode, which offers a greatly simplified control scheme with much simpler combos and special moves you can perform with the push of a button.

If you're new to the series, make no mistake - there are some eccentric choices here. Knock someone out with the sleeve of your dress, thunder round the screen as a monster or slice someone up with a sword-wielding cat - it's your choice. Whichever way you go, it's going to be epic!
