Summary

Teslagrad starts with a bang, and from there on out just piles on the intrigue. Things begin with a soldier barging into your house, prompting your mother to push you into the street so you can flee for your safety. After a frantic rooftop dash you find yourself in a monolithic tower with a dark past, aggressive inhabitants and a mystery for you to solve...

The game is, at its heart, a puzzler. Taking the form of a side-on platform game, it drives you to investigate the tower, interacting with your environment in strange and beguiling ways. The fact that the story unfolds without any spoken or written words only adds to the intrigue (or allows you to ignore the story altogether, if you're so inclined).

The core mechanic in Teslagrad is the ability to manipulate magnetic artefacts littering the tower. Early on you learn to change the polarisation of these objects, opening up some novel gameplay options. It's these seemingly simple game elements that will have you whizzing round levels in dazzling displays of acrobatics in later stages. The key is combining seemingly simple mechanics to get unexpected results.

Mix in an art-style that sits somewhere between Braid, Professor Layton and Disney and you've got a unique puzzle platformer.
