Summary

Watch out, there's a ruddy-cheeked, toothless Canadian about! NHL 2000 is the absolute flipside to the dour realism of classic ice hockey movie 'Slapshot', in that rather than laugh yourself silly at the reckless antics of a bunch of ageing alcoholic no-hopers, every player in this title looks as fit as a butcher's dog. And yes, that includes the clumsily swaying mass of loud colours and padding that is the goalkeeper.

NHL 2000 is so immaculately presented that you might find yourself fearing for the state of the gameplay. So many times we have been disappointed with the heat of the action after the sumptuous detail of the opening movie. Well you can put all those fears aside as far as this game is concerned. Stunning detail and production goes hand in hand with fast and furious rink action in NHL2000. The presentation is worthy of the wealthiest specialist sports channel, with multiple camera angles and replays and authoritative and well synchronised commentary. And the ice? Put it this way, you could apply your make-up on this rink, not that I'm suggesting that these rugged men wear anything but warpaint, oh no.

Put simply, NHL 2000 squeezes every last drop of the Dreamcast's processing power in order to bring us possibly the finest-looking console version of this ever-popular sport so far. Handsome, unlike that dentally-challenged fellow coming right at you with the big stick!
