Summary

The ultimate driving party game is back, Crazy Taxi 2 hits the Dreamcast once again. It’s time to make some crazy money and have some crazy fun. Turn up the music and tear up the streets, if you loved the first instalment, you won’t believe how good this sequel is. With new drivers, a whole new city and new bonus sub-games, Crazy Taxi 2 shines as another Dreamcast gem. If you have already given up on the console, think again.

The action in Crazy Taxi has shifted from the sunny hills of San Francisco to the hectic, busy traffic jams of New York City. At first you might miss the massive jumps of San Fran, but when the intricacies of New York grip you, you’ll love the new layout and complexity therein.

For those that missed the original Crazy Taxi, the aim of the game is to get people where they need to go. You earn extra time, points and street cred’ by doing this quickly. If you are too slow, your passengers will simply hop out of your cab without paying. By the way, you can drive practically anyway and anywhere you like. This is game is fun with a capital F.

To get the most out of Crazy Taxi 2 it is important to learn the crazy techniques such as quick starts, stops, and drifts (powerslides). Getting up to and losing speed quickly is necessary for good score and crazy drifts can be used for tight corners and 180 degree turns. A major new technique in Taxi 2 is the hop. By pressing the Y button you can ‘leap’ your taxi into the air. Very useful for bouncing over oncoming traffic, reaching sneaky shortcuts and hopping from one rooftop to the next!

Of course the mini-games in the pyramid mode will help you perfect your crazy techniques. These sub games such as long jump, giant ball bashing, driving along cliffs while avoiding traffic will make you a taxi master in no time.

Another new gameplay tweak is the inclusion of multiple passengers. Now you can have up to four people in the back of your cab, all wanting to go to different locations. You have a distance metre under each destination picture so you must decide the most efficient route. Learning the city helps.

Overall, Crazy Taxi 2 is another Hitmaker ‘triple A’ title for the DC, fun, simple, complicated, secreting gameplay from every possible orifice. If you find enjoyment in playing computer games, you have a crazy time with this top title.
